Excursion tips in Zillertal

The starting point of the excursion is the Hochzeller Käsealm on the Hainzenberg (3 km above Zell am Ziller in the direction of Gerlos). The tour first takes you to the root carving workshop and mineral exhibition, then on to the local history museum and the pilgrimage church ‘Maria Rast’ and finally through the forest to the gold show mine. The tour of the mine and the historically important sites takes about two hours.

The highest waterfalls in Europe in the Hohe Tauern National Park! Our tip: Drive over the Gerlos Pass (Krimml Waterfalls) - Pass Thurn - Kitzbühel - Ellmau (Wilder Kaiser) - Kufstein - Zillertal. This round trip of around 180 kilometres offers breathtaking views.

If you wish, you can continue your journey in Jenbach on the over 120-year-old Achensee railway. The cog railway takes you over 7 km uphill to the Seespitz on Lake Achensee, with a gradient of up to 16%, the old narrow-gauge railway really works up a sweat. Once at the top, you can take a steamboat trip across Lake Achensee.

Experience how silver was mined 500 years ago - Schwaz was the largest mine in the Middle Ages! The mine railway takes you inside the mine, followed by a tour during which the hard work of the miners in the Middle Ages is explained.
